The main criteria are as follows:

• The machinery must be designed and constructed in such a way that it does not present any risks to health and safety when used under normal conditions of operation;
• It must be CE marked following the UKCA Machinery Regulation Directive;
• The machinery must comply with any additional specific requirements that may apply to it, as set out in annexes to the Directive; and
• The manufacturer or their authorized representative established within the European Economic Area (EEA) must draw up an EU Declaration of Conformity for the machinery concerned.

To do this, you will need to submit a completed application form, along with supporting documentation, to the competent authority in your EEA country.

If your product is subject to the Machinery Directive, you will need to affix a UKCA mark to it before it can be placed on the market in Great Britain or Northern Ireland. You do not need to affix a UKCA mark if your product is only being placed on the market in Northern Ireland.
