UKCA FOR RISK CATEGORIZATION – UAE, OMAN, SAUDI ARABIA

BS EN 1090 1 is the standard that has been harmonised for structural steel. As on July 1st, 2014, it was declared an offence to sell structural metalwork, unless it is conforming to this standard and has the legitimate UKCA mark or CE mark.

  • Body protection gear for general use (protective clothing)
  • Equipment that offers non-slip protection for legs and feet (safety shoes)
  • Arm and hand protection equipment (protective gloves)

The certification scope covers the following dangers:

  • Chemicals and mixtures that are harmful for health
  • Agents of biological harm
  • Chemical agents
  • Mechanical risk
  • Protection against extreme atmospheric conditions
  • Protection against fire, heat Cold and static electricity, as well as cuts made by hand-operated chainsaws as well as electric shock
  • Safety for firefighters and motorcyclists
  • Protection in welding processes and other allied processes, and when used in potentially explosive environments
  • Visual signals of the presence of a user (high visibility)

Placing in the EU:

To ensure that the products that are sold through the European market are performing according to what they are supposed to in the EU market, it is the European Union has enacted Regulation (EU) 2016/425 which is a strict set of requirements for goods. It categorizes products the products into 3 categories.

  1. Class I – requires self-declaration from manufacturers only
  2. Category II – requires the certification of a Notified Body within Europe
  3. Category III – requires ongoing monitoring and certification by a Notified Body within Europe

To obtain CE Marking for Category II and Category III, producers’ importers, exporters, and manufacturers are required to conduct tests on their products at accredited laboratories and then send CE Marking requests to a Notified Body. This Notified Body will review technical documents supplied by applicants and determine if the products comply with the requirements of the regulatory.

In order to be in Category III, companies are required to organize for an annual review by a Notified Body through factory audit or test samples.

UKCA  for Risk Categorization in UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Lebanon, and Jordan can make three main kinds of claims: diagnostic or screening claims monitoring or claims for treatment response and prognostic claims. DHTs that have diagnosis or screening claims detect specific signals that indicate diagnoses of disease. 

The claims for monitoring or pharmacological response comprise tools for monitoring patient health status and are used to determine if the patient’s condition is under control or requires further intervention, or if a treatment is working and should be maintained. 

Prognostic claims comprise tools that give information about a patient’s likely course of the disease, for example, the reaction to a specific kind of treatment, or the likelihood of recurrence or flare-ups.
