What is the UKCA labeling and in what way will this affect me? (UK Conformity Assessment) marking is a new mark that is mandatory for products that are placed to the marketplace throughout Great Britain (England, Wales, and Scotland).

The Measuring Instruments Directive 2014/32/EU:

Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) is a directive of the European Union, which seeks to standardize various aspects of metrology that are legal across the member states within the EU. 

The MID includes the following measuring instruments:

  • Water meters
  • The volume converter device and the gas meters
  • Active electric energy meters
  • Heat meters

The Measuring Instruments Regulations 2016 (2016 No. 1153)

The Regulation includes the following measurement devices and systems like: gas meters, water meters, volume conversion devices active electrical energy meters thermal energy meters. It also includes systems of measuring for continuous and constant measurement of the quantities of liquids other than water taximeters and automatic weighing equipment materials as well as dimensional measuring instruments, exhaust gas analyser, etc.

When it comes to measuring instruments in UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Lebanon, and Jordan, the maker can choose from the assessment procedures specified within Schedule 1B in the Regulations.

The Approved Body verifies the UKCA for Measuring Instruments in UAE compliance of a product through an assessment of conformity. It also makes sure that technical documents ensure compliance with the product. In the event that an Approved Body is involved in the control of production, the identification number of its member will be noted following the UKCA label.
