UKCA HARMONISED AND TESTING STANDARDS – UAE, OMAN, SAUDI ARABIA

The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) Mark is a new UK mark for products which are available for sale within Great Britain (England, Wales along with Scotland). It covers all products that were previously marked with the CE marking.

The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessment) mark has come into effect to replace that of the CE Mark for manufacturers selling products in Great Britain (i.e., United Kingdom, excluding Northern Ireland). This UKCA Certificate will operate exactly the same way as it does the CE mark, meaning that the products need to be inspected to meet the UKCA standards before they are able to be offered in the GB market.

The new list of UK Legislative Instruments that are equivalent to EU Directives must be references to your technical documents instead of EU legislation. 

The UK government has released the set of UK Designated Standards that are replacing those of the UKCA Harmonised and Testing Standards. At present, the technical requirements that must be met remain in a large part the same as the current version of the European Harmonised standard. It is, however, the responsibility of the manufacturer to confirm the compliance.

We strongly suggest that businesses in UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Lebanon, and Jordan begin preparing for the transition marking of their products specifically for UK market in the earliest time possible.

A UKCA Harmonised standard is a European standard created by a recognized European Standards Organisation. It was developed following a request by the European Commission to one of these organisations. Producers, other operators of the economy or conformity assessment organisations are able to use harmonised standards in order to prove that their products or services conform to relevant EU regulations.

The harmonised standard’s references are required to appear within the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). The goal of this website is to make available the most recent list of references to the harmonised standards, as well as additional European standards.

In the beginning the European standard harmonised and the UKCA Harmonised and Testing Standards specified will be identical. In the future, however, there could be a necessity to add UK established standards in a way to comply with the requirements of UK.
